Panasonic TC-26LX60 26-Inch LCD HDTV with HDMI Connection User Review

I got this TV for 9 with free shipping. It is my first widescreen, flat panel and it is incredible. I don’t even have it hooked up to cable or satellite. It is hooked up to rabbit ears and the HD pic is incredible. I have found that most of the local programming in the evening is HD. I am blown away by the way the David Letterman show looks. And the Superbowl was unbelievable. Highly recommended!!!!

Panasonic TH-65PZ750U 65-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV User Review

We bought the TH-65PZ750U both because an independent/non-profit consumer magazine rated its little brother, the TH-58PZ750U, as the top-performing TV in its size class, and because Panasonic TVs in general were rated as having the least-frequent / smallest number of problems/repairs. In my own experience, one can’t take for granted getting both high performance and reliability in one product. So with a credible source saying that Panasonic nailed both, we figured we can’t go wrong.

We’ve been using this TV for about 4 months and are very pleased. The picture looked awesome right out of the box. The only adjustment we’ve made since then is to back off the “Picture” setting because we found it to be very bright; not a flaw, just preference. I am particularly fussy about picture quality, and until now preferred smaller screens because the big ones just didn’t look good to me. But the TH-65PZ750U changed that. The HDTV picture is incredible. The colors are vivid but not embellished, the level of detail is stunning, and the edges are nice and crisp. In fact, with a good HD source, the TH-65PZ750U is able to give the illusion of looking out a window or “being right there”. But it also excels with regular non-HD sources as well.

On top of all that, the TV itself has a nice gloss-black frame that looks really sharp. Obviously a matter of taste, but some of the gray-plastic frames on other TVs make them look cheezy and could be of detriment to the “wife-approval factor”. Ours is being used as a monitor connected to a home theater system, so I am unable to comment on the TV’s built-in tuner or sound quality.

So if you want top-shelf picture quality from a company with a good track record for reliability, the Panasonic TH-65PZ750U is definitely worth putting at the top of your short list.

Panasonic TC-P50U2 50-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV User Review

Just picked up my second Panasonic plasma and couldn’t be happier. This TV has great picture and just enough bells and whistles for my needs: 3 HDMI inputs and an SD card reader for viewing photos. This TV does not have anti-reflective glare (not needed in a dark home theater room), USB ports (who cares), LAN connection (I already have streaming Netflix through Roku and Wii), 3D capable (I personally don’t want that, you may), or a fourth HDMI input (don’t need it, you may). The picture is identical to any other model in the series, just significantly less expensive because it omits the aforementioned features. So just decide what inputs you need and pay for the model that provides just that and nothing extra. I have had my 42 inch for three years and it is perfect and I expect the same quality and reliability out of this one too!!!

Panasonic TH 42PX600U – 42″ VIERA plasma TV – widescreen – 720p – HDTV User Review

I purchased this set over 2 years ago (for 80 total in Feb 07) to replace my old Panasonic 32in CRT TV. This was my 1st step into the HDTV world and I researched my plasma/LCD choices for many months before deciding on this particular model. It was hard to compare models at the department stores because none of the sets are calibrated correctly and the store lighting was too bright. It was the reviews from Amazon and CNET that convinced me to go with this Panasonic model.

Pros:
- Excellent range of colors (need to calibrate settings after break-in)
- Deep blacks
- Very good sound quality with or without home theater system, balance sound from TV speakers.
- Exceptionally wide viewing angle
- Excellent DVD and Blue-ray image with up-converted PS3 and Denon S-301 home theater.
- +2 years of flawless operation with no hint of warranty issues
- Quick start ups, fast channel changes, ease of use
- Zero burn-in issues and zero temporary image retention
- Attractive design
- Exact same picture/sound quality with HDMI or component/audio cables (channel changes a little quicker with component cables)

Cons:
- Depending on signal, SD can be a little grainy and sometimes the occasional digital “pixilation” on HD broadcasts (Comcast fault, not Panasonic)
- Glare/reflection because of smooth screen
- No lazy Susan base like newer models
- Still need the Panasonic remote to change inputs or aspect ratio
- Heavy compared to same sized LCD

I recently purchased in Feb/09 a Samsung LN-46A650 1080p 46inch LCD HDTV (80 with shipping) to replace the old 42″ Panasonic plasma downstairs. I’ve heard and read how much the LCDs have caught up the plasma in picture quality and I decided to give the top rated Samsung a chance. I belong to several Audio/Visual forums and I downloaded the calibration settings from other Samsung owners that had their set professionally calibrated. The only advantages the Samsung had was 4 HDMI inputs, swivel base, and a larger screen by 4 inches, after that is was all Panasonic. The +2 year old Panasonic had a sharper HD/SD picture quality, superior sound quality, faster start up, quicker HDMI channel changes, easier to calibrate and it required less tweaking depending on SD/HD signal. After one week, I had to return the Samsung because it just wasn’t worth spending that much money for decreased image/sound quality. I replaced the Samsung with the Panasonic 58 inch 1080p TH-58PZ800U (,089 + 0 5 day ground shipping) and I am extremely happy with both of my Panasonic HDTVs.

Side note: Comcast in New Mexico never told me I needed to configure my Scientific Atlanta 8300HD DVR to output 480p/720p/1080i signal for my HDTV. The default settings on the 8300HD look more like upconverted 480i/480p on the TV. Once I figure this out on my own, HD really came alive on both Panasonic HDTVs.

Panasonic TC-P42U2 42-Inch 1080p Plasma HDTV User Review

This is my first HDTV purchase and I’m very happy with it. A friend suggested I go with Panasonic as I’d get the most bang for my buck, and she was right.

The stand was easy enough to assemble and the set looks and feels well-constructed and appropriate for any room decor. The menus are user-friendly and initial setup was a breeze; an explanation is shown for every available option, so people who aren’t familiar with funny acronyms don’t need to look through the user manual.

The video quality is outstanding. I tested it first with my PS3 (my main reason for buying a tv) and the colors really pop out at you. I was worried that the plasma would be too dark, but it handles both bright and dark colors exceptionally well. Nothing looks washed out or too black. The only complaint is that the screen brightness can be overpowering with the Game and Vivid settings (I’m more a fan of the latter, but it depends on the game), but the brightness can be adjusted and the adaptive lighting seems to work well enough. I would have liked an overall gamma setting, but you can tweak the video to be nearly perfect with the tv options and the video source’s settings. Also, the anti-glare works well enough that I can keep one set of curtains open while viewing and the picture doesn’t suffer.

Next, I connected my laptop through its HDMI output (most customers probably don’t have this but I’ll mention it anyway). 1680×1050 resolution seems to work the best as 1920 left the desktop looking too small and making it easier to notice the pixels, and anything smaller doesn’t fit just perfectly. I think these are issues with my laptop giving the tv strange resolutions that it’s not used to, but these aren’t enough to detract from the quality of the tv. I tested a few games at 1280×960 and they looked better than they do on my laptop’s screen (anything less than 1680 on my computer is fuzzy). As mentioned before, small portions were cut off of the left and right sides but it was only enough to notice while on menus. I’ll definitely be using this tv as a monitor for schoolwork. Movie quality is great with compressed video files, so I’m sure the blu ray will be amazing.

The speakers are sub-par, but they’re not terrible. I was still able to enjoy the games without the extra oomph of a solid set with a woofer, but my next priority will be audio.

I’m satisfied with the connections in the back of the tv. I’m only using it for HDMI and occasionally the RCA at the moment, but the optical audio out is convenient if go that route for speakers (I’m not sure if this is standard now but I like it).

Overall, I’m very happy with the tv and would buy it again. The price you pay is well worth the quality you get out of it. Aside from a few minor issues and poor speakers, it’s a great HDTV.
