Panasonic TC L42U12 – 42″ VIERA LCD TV – widescreen – 1080p (FullHD) – HDTV User Review
I’m only going to comment on the rear connections. Only one set of component in, which is fine because anyone who wants to use this great TV, should have updated equipment. But my cablebox ONLY has component, so I can’t use any other outdated systems…everything else must be HDMI to take advantage of TV. Since this is a bedroom tv, not a big deal.
Next…audio quality is poor. Which is fine because most ppl who have a nice TV will support it with extra speakers. I bought the TVee Soundbar because it’s simple and doesn’t need a receiver. Well…the TV only has ONE audio out. and it’s a digital (Toslink) audio out. Website says TWO audio out. I guess they’re counting the headphone jack. Looks like panasonic got a little lazy and didn’t bother to include support for older devices. Now I’m up a creek because I’ll either need to buy a toslink to rca converter or take the dive and get a receiver….but who the heck has a receiver in the bedroom?!

Panasonic PT-53WX53 53-Inch Widescreen HD-Ready Projection TV User Review
I really like the TV. I like the way the picture looks, considering that I spent 00, and not 00. I’ve had my TV a few days, so I can’t tell you how it holds up over time (I’ll be back). This review is a “tell you what you may want to know from day one” as much as it is a review. I hope I can help prevent you from damaging your projection TV by telling things not mentioned in the manual.
An earlier review (different website) gave the TV one star out of five because he said after eight months he had side bars permanently burned into his screen, and he felt the manual’s “don’t use 4:3 mode more than 15% of the time” wasn’t enough information. Keeping this in mind, I never use 4:3 with gray side bars (I can live with the “Just” stretch.) The manual says nothing about a break in period (it didn’t say “this TV has new technology and doesn’t need a “break-in” either). I’ve read several internet articles that recommend special treatment the first 100 hours–have the contrast turned down. This TV doesn’t list “contrast” but I’m assuming “picture” is the same thing. One said 250 hours (most said one hundred). Everyone said turn down the contrast (or in our case, I think `picture’). One said to turn down other things (well, you need some brightness, or else no light gets to the screen and that can’t be a good break-in either J. Several articles on projection TVs said “Wow, after the breakin the picture became really great!” My second day I thought it was looking better than the first. One site said “don’t just turn on your TV for 100 hours and say `I’m done!’”, that the turning the TV on and turning it off (so that the components warm up, then cool down, etc.) was a part of the conditioning. As delivered, the TV setting was on “vivid” which has the highest picture. I turned that all the way down. I hooked a computer LCD monitor up to my DVD player through an S-video, and ran component cables (red, green, blue) from the DVD player into the TV so I could compare the pictures. The TV seemed to error on too much red (people skin color), so I changed color temperature to cool, and there was too much color, so I turned down the tint. This gave people a more natural looking skin color. This isn’t a criticism of this particular model–one website named three TV brands and said they all give you a TV with the contrast (or picture) turned high and probably too much red. For comic relief, one guy mentioned that the stores put the most expensive TV’s in a category on “vivid” so they look better than the less expensive TVs. One site said that the large the projection TV, the more likelihood of problems like burn in . I’m paranoid about the TV logos in the lower right corner if the logo is solid white (I sent ABC an email pleading with them to change to something half transparent so the colors underneath come through.) News channels with a running ticker at the bottom of the screen-never! Right now while I’m breaking the TV, I’m not playing any cartoons. My understanding of the break in is to run the circuitry without a heavy load on the lamps (like driving your new car 50 miles an hour on the highway). To me, the cartoons are very very colorful, equivalent to playing a normal movie on vivid. Wouldn’t that defeat the purpose of the break-in? I hope to find something about this on the internet. Biggest complaint- I’ve already seen with two of my widescreen DVDs that they don’t quite fill the screen from top to bottom (slight slivers of blackness at top and bottom) and none of the zoom modes will fix this. Those DVD’s are now banned from the TV(I’ll play them on my computer). One review site said the problem was that this TV only has four Zoom options, and other TVs have more. Maybe later I’ll get a new DVD player that can send out a signal with various zooms and then I would just put the TV on standard aspect (no zooming) to accept it. Perhaps this is my biggest complaint against the TV, that the basic “zoom” can’t make it zoom all the way in each direction. From reading the manual, I would have thought it would zoom completely. TV gets 4 of 5 stars for excellent price to performance ratio. I wanted to give 5, but if all this stuff I found on the internet is true, then when I bought the TV, I could have read the manual, turned it on, and misused/abused it during the first few weeks of use. I don’t know how much new lamps cost, or what I would pay for the labor. The guy with the problem of the burned in side bars said that one would cost 0 total (parts and labor).

Coby TFTV1525 15-Inch Widescreen TFT LCD 720p HDTV/Monitor with HDMI Input (Black) User Review
The TV is very clear and the sound is a little tinny like everyone says. With the speakers on the bottom its OK if the sound direction can get to you. MY BIG PROBLEM is that the cable connection is exactly in the middle of the back of the TV such that when mounting it under a cabinet with the 10″-24″ Flip Mount from Premier Mounts, the mount is in the way of the cable connection. I cannot connect the cable while the TV is connected to the under cabinet mount. I don’t know if this is a problem with other under cabinet mounts sold by Amazon. I hate to have to buy them all the find one thats works. Any suggestions?

Panasonic TH 42PX600U – 42″ VIERA plasma TV – widescreen – 720p – HDTV User Review
I purchased this set over 2 years ago (for 80 total in Feb 07) to replace my old Panasonic 32in CRT TV. This was my 1st step into the HDTV world and I researched my plasma/LCD choices for many months before deciding on this particular model. It was hard to compare models at the department stores because none of the sets are calibrated correctly and the store lighting was too bright. It was the reviews from Amazon and CNET that convinced me to go with this Panasonic model.
Pros:
- Excellent range of colors (need to calibrate settings after break-in)
- Deep blacks
- Very good sound quality with or without home theater system, balance sound from TV speakers.
- Exceptionally wide viewing angle
- Excellent DVD and Blue-ray image with up-converted PS3 and Denon S-301 home theater.
- +2 years of flawless operation with no hint of warranty issues
- Quick start ups, fast channel changes, ease of use
- Zero burn-in issues and zero temporary image retention
- Attractive design
- Exact same picture/sound quality with HDMI or component/audio cables (channel changes a little quicker with component cables)
Cons:
- Depending on signal, SD can be a little grainy and sometimes the occasional digital “pixilation” on HD broadcasts (Comcast fault, not Panasonic)
- Glare/reflection because of smooth screen
- No lazy Susan base like newer models
- Still need the Panasonic remote to change inputs or aspect ratio
- Heavy compared to same sized LCD
I recently purchased in Feb/09 a Samsung LN-46A650 1080p 46inch LCD HDTV (80 with shipping) to replace the old 42″ Panasonic plasma downstairs. I’ve heard and read how much the LCDs have caught up the plasma in picture quality and I decided to give the top rated Samsung a chance. I belong to several Audio/Visual forums and I downloaded the calibration settings from other Samsung owners that had their set professionally calibrated. The only advantages the Samsung had was 4 HDMI inputs, swivel base, and a larger screen by 4 inches, after that is was all Panasonic. The +2 year old Panasonic had a sharper HD/SD picture quality, superior sound quality, faster start up, quicker HDMI channel changes, easier to calibrate and it required less tweaking depending on SD/HD signal. After one week, I had to return the Samsung because it just wasn’t worth spending that much money for decreased image/sound quality. I replaced the Samsung with the Panasonic 58 inch 1080p TH-58PZ800U (,089 + 0 5 day ground shipping) and I am extremely happy with both of my Panasonic HDTVs.
Side note: Comcast in New Mexico never told me I needed to configure my Scientific Atlanta 8300HD DVR to output 480p/720p/1080i signal for my HDTV. The default settings on the 8300HD look more like upconverted 480i/480p on the TV. Once I figure this out on my own, HD really came alive on both Panasonic HDTVs.

Panasonic TC P42G15 – 41.6″ plasma TV – widescreen – 1080p (FullHD) – HDTV User Review
You will not find a better picture quality in the price range, the only equal quality TV’s I have found were 2-3 times as much in price.
I don’t like how the audio out changes the sound format, however running the digatal audio directly from your DVD, etc. to your receiver is the way to go anyways.
I waited years to find a TV that I thought was worth buying, this is an incredible TV. HD Broadcasting is still far behind, I am disapointed in how HD still changes the display size, however this has nothing to do with the TV itself.
Video on Demand works great. The only other comment is what others have said, I wish they put a quick button on the remote to change the display type, i.e., Vivid, Custom, THX, etc.
Blu-ray is astonishing.

Panasonic TC P58V10 – 58″ plasma TV – widescreen – 1080p (FullHD) – HDTV User Review
I have had this TV since 3/25/10. The picture is nothing short of amazing. I have it connected to AT&T Uverse service. All of the LCD and LED TV’s always have a slight outline of the objects in the picture and ghosting and blur during fast action scenes along with some pixelation and jagged edges which varies in degree across differnt models. But when looking up close on this tv there is absolute none of that. The picture is razor sharp, crystal clear with very accurate color and distribution. It has a very good black which provides a nice contrast. When I first turned it on and went to the settings menu, the video settings were all at fifty percent which surprised me because all of the channels had a pretty bright picture, so any adjustments were not needed. The only thing that I did change was the picture format when watching HD channels so they will cover the whole screen. Also, even the SD channels fit very nicely on the screen and any stretching is not that noticable unless you are paying attention to it.
Overall, I don’t see how any more improvements could be made except for making it 3D with all of the bugs worked out. The speakers in the tv are quite average but I can’t see why anyone would make use of them anyway as it only make sense to connect to a suround sound receiver. The built in vieracast feature I have not made use of yet and is used to access a small number of popular websites. This might be fun to play with but there is not much use for it.
I gave this TV five stars and consider it a very good deal for the money.

Panasonic TC P46G15 – 46″ plasma TV – widescreen – 1080p (FullHD) – HDTV User Review
Purchased this plasma TV in early January. It was a “close-out” model still in box at a local big box retailer. I bought the last one in the store. We recently moved and my huge 65″ projection TV was not going to fit into our new living room, so we needed a flat screen to mount on the wall next to the fireplace. I was undecided between an LCD or plasma, but decided on the latter due to the claim of a better viewing angle. The tv is mounted in a corner, and is watched from the living room, dining room and sometimes the kitchen, so a good viewing angle was crucial. I’ve had this tv for over a month now & we absolutely love it! The picture is so beautiful no matter what the source we’re playing. Standard def is clear and of course, HD is amazing! The sound from the TV isn’t as bad as I thought it would be after reading other reviews. Digital quality sound thru HDMI & the TV’s speakers is crisp and clear. We did end up buying a AV receiver to hook up to the TV but that was more for music purposes. I could have easily used and been happy with the tv’s built-in speakers. The viewing angle is very good, which is why we chose this model in the first place. A couple negatives about this TV to be aware of: 1) there is a glare off of the screen if watching in a sunny room. One entire wall in our living room is a window that is currently not covered by curtains or anything, so the room gets plenty of sunlight during the day. At certain times of the day, the picture on the TV is nearly washed out due to the glare from the screen, but we plan to install a curtain on that wall sometime soon so this should resolve that issue. In addition, our TV watching during the day is not too often, so this minor annoyance is tolerable for us. I had read that due to the glass screen, plasmas do give off more glare than LCDs, so I knew this going in. Not going to ‘ding’ a product for something I already expected. This was a trade-off I was willing to make for the better viewing angle. I have never owned an LCD flat screen so cannot compare the anti-glare claim on those TVs. 2) This TV is difficult to keep clean since dust shows up like crazy on the black casing, but again, this is a minor complaint for me. Only takes a minute or two to swipe it clean. My boyfriend, who did not want a new TV, actually commented on my good decision to buy this one. And all of our friends who were thinking of going the LCD route have changed their minds to going plasma, or this exact same TV. I think that’s the best testament of all! All in all VERY pleased with this model and its performance. Can’t imagine someone experiencing television on this set and not enjoying it!!!

Panasonic TC 50PS14 – 49.9″ VIERA plasma TV – widescreen – 1080p (FullHD) – HDTV User Review
Recently picked up a 50S14 from Best Buy, at the time I was under the impression it was the same as a S1 but with a VGA input (no speaker input though so what’s the point of the VGA?). This apparently was not the case as this S14 is actually a slight downgrade from the S1. Panasonic specs claim the 50S14 does not have the Neo Panel and the accompanying extra 1,000 or so shades of degradation and does not have a Game Mode (which is supposed to brighten up the screen and eliminate any lag- lag is not an issue to begin with and you can probably brighten up the screen yourself). The other difference which may be a big deal for some is that the 50S14 claims to only have 900 or more lines of moving resolution while the S1 and better models are capable of the full 1080 lines of moving resolution. This may not be a big deal as most people probably couldn’t tell the difference anyways. In all, the specs on this tv would have made it pretty darn spiffy back in ‘08 but by 2010 standards it’s getting obsolete. If you are willing to spend a little more locally or take the chance of ordering a tv online you can definitely get a better set for a similar or lesser price. If I would have known all this at the time I probably would have just settled on a 42S1 for the Neo panel, 1080 lines of moving resolution and game mode but I do really love having a 50″ set from a local store with a very good return policy.
As for gaming, plasma beats LCD any day of the week. I have owned a few LCD’s lately (all were returned) ranging from the ho-hum 60hz 8ms to 120hz 6ms and both had about a half second lag that I never even noticed until I gamed on the plasma with 600hz .0001 ms. It was like night and day. I swear the plasma knows what button I’m going to hit before I hit it, it is that responsive (perhaps LCD with lower ms would help here). I have not seen any motion blur or pixelation with the plasma, things I commonly saw on both the 60 and 120hz LCDs (again, LCd with lower ms would help here for the pixelation).
My main gripe about all plasmas in general is that they are much dimmer than any LCD (apparently LCDs are unnaturally bright, but for sports I think this gives it a superior picture quality, I love those crips, white uniforms and an overly sharp image)
In all, I do love my new plasma even if its not the best thing out there. If you can find a deal on one of these S14’s I recommend it but make sure to shop around a little bit first, many places are dealing on their 2009 plasma models right now since the 2010 models are coming out.
